missional social media
Listening Guide to “Missional Social Media” video:
Missional Social Media: Enhances missional living
Missional social media (MSM) has the potential to enhance missional living impact
MSM comes alongside face to face relationships, but doesn’t replace them.
Build relationships in person, and then connect on social media so they can see your intentional posts, get to know you and increase likelihood of coming.
Mission Social Media: Intentional Mission
MSM is not your highlight reel
MSM is about sharing your Jesus-centered life, don't project a false, perfect persona
Vary the type of posts you share authentically.
As the Spirit leads, share highs, lows and the everyday aspects of your life, articles you like, hobbies, events, inspirational things, as well as MC promo. The more you share, the more people get to know you, but this doesn’t mean MORE posts, just varying posts when you do share them.
Since you are going to post weekly about your MC, it's probably a good idea to share 1 or 2 other things that week to build relationships and engage people on SM. Just be yourself! Allow others into your life.
SM gives us an opportunity to engage not-yet-believing people on their couch!
Get in the habit of thinking how you can share your life in a way that is authentic and lets people see how Jesus makes a difference, even in the bad stuff, good stuff or things you care about. This will help them know you, trust you and be interested in coming to your missional community.
Missional Social media: MEDIA just like any other media
Consistent posts with same message
Restate mission/vision creatively
Keep the tag line "bring your mess" or hashtags the same
Switch up group photos, favorite quotes from your study, funny memes, vision, etc.
People will learn your message over time, whether they mean to or not. If they’re reading it, they’re learning it
Your potential mamas are reading. Those that don’t care will scroll on and not read.
Share for the ones who are reading, and intrigued- God is using you!
Success is not measured in results we can see
God can use our posts to reach hearts in ways we can’t see.
Be willing to show up for one woman, or post for zero “likes.”
The more you are impacting someone's heart, the less likely they are to like or comment. They will probably personally message you.
Social media: a tool for the gospel to spread, not a tool for personal affirmation
Our value and worth is rooted in Jesus Christ
Our value isn’t confirmed with likes and comments on SM
Our lives are part of God's story, Jesus is the hero, we aren’t the main character
So we can post about the hard things
So we don’t need to have it all together
So we don’t need to be perfect
But we do need to point people back to Jesus, and not glory in the good or bad
If our story is really His story, we don’t need to look for SM validation
Authentically post within your gifts and personality
Own it the way God created you to!
Choose Humor or a relatable theme to post often with (I chose coffee)
Choose a relatable thing to connect believing and not yet believing moms.
I encourage it to be something funny!
Some ecards are free and in the business of finding relatable humor. (Search it)
Search google images or Pinterest for memes or create with Canva.
Rotate humor posts and vision posts creatively:
Re-share your vision & mission, again and again, in creative, spirit-led ways.
Make sure you are actively reorienting your life and building new relationships, and then connecting on social media so they can see your posts!
Make posts public so people can share them and they are more visible. DO NOT share location in your public posts.
goal is for everyone to grow in Gospel application
A missional community combines evangelism and discipleship
You want to use words that engages not-yet-believing people, but of course you will attract believing people as well.
The gospel is the means to which we grow spiritually, not just step one
Even if people come looking for a bible study, it doesn’t mean they have a vibrant relationship with Jesus or understand how Gospel relates to all of life.
If you have a mature believer join, partner with them, give them gospel fluency resources and raise up as a co-leader, empower their gifts to edify your group.
Discipleship is growing in how the gospel relates to all of life and then making more disciples of Jesus. We will be pushed to grow when we are leading others to Christ, and helping them grow. We will pray harder and dig deeper in Word.
Discipleship is NOT just about becoming a better Christian with better behaviors. I’ve seen some of those people come and go because they think the gospel is “too basic” for them.
Our first T-shirt said “All I need today is a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus” with Agape Moms at the bottom.
Our current shirt says #bringyourmess with Agape Moms (available for sale in the Agape Moms Shop)

Connecting new women
From missional social media post straight to Facebook group.
Goal of Social Media Posts are to edify the reader, not yourself
Ask, “Is this post helpful to my readers, or is it more about/for me?”
Share vision and mission, again and again
Showcase what the family of God is/looks like
Authenticity showcase your life, the messes and the highlights to gain trust
Be gospel centered
God’s story not yours
Builds relationships and trust when you vary topics of posts
Highlights, low lights (with Jesus), articles you care about, funny stuff, inspirational stuff, hobbies you enjoy, recipes, sermons you love, whatever God is doing in your life today.
Be real. Don’t be preachy. Don’t be a negative Nancy. Just be yourself. In the good bad and ugly.
Focus on showcasing gospel Fluency in your life and posts
SM works in tandem with Missional Living, it is not a replacement
Meet someone, build relationship, connect on SM, and then they begin seeing your missional posts and may end up in your group
Purposely seek the one lost sheep just like Jesus does
May need to reorient your life by joining something or frequenting a coffee shop or library where you can be meeting moms.
Identity is in Jesus not social media likes!
We are loved and accepted in Jesus so it’s ok if we are rejected by others who aren’t ready to take their next step with him
Our identity and love in Jesus pushes us past our fears to post on SM
Remember SM is just a tool to continually share a message it has nothing to do with you personally!
Be loving, be spirit filled, be passionate about who Jesus is and what he’s doing!
Missional Social Media Examples
See below for a couple months worth of examples.
Weekly invite posts the night before Agape Moms, varied between humor, vision, and creatively resharing what and who we are. Make public so people can share and see.
Share a group picture or recap post after the group meets, same day. Builds community and helps potential new moms visualize themselves. Tag the women. We always get tons of interest after these pictures!
Post Moms Nights out and baby celebrations too.
When you see the name “Agape Moms” in these examples, that is an active link tagged back to the group, where they can read the group description and ask to join. You can tag your Agape Moms facebook group by using the @ symbol before writing it.
Double post in your Agape Moms facebook group and on your personal social media, vary the content. One geared towards new people and is missional on your personal page, in the group use same picture, similar message, because you’ll have inconsistent people in the private group too. Focus group posts on sharing updates, the location and reminders on who’s turn to share snack or story, what chapter, prayer updates etc. Helps encourage people to come too!
Each week pray and ask how God would lead you to promo your group. He will give you the words and creatively. Remember, it's just media, you don’t need to worry about likes or comments, your job is to be faithful in sharing the invitation and vision.
Hopefully these posts inspire you to be missional with social media in your own way! Everyone's lives and social media uses will look different. Hopefully you can see how it this was built over time, and how I continually shared the same thing, but differently each week.

Cheers, mama friends 😂 and consider this your personal invite to enjoy your mid-morning cup of coffee with us tomorrow from 9-11am @ Agape Moms! We work through a discussion based chapter together, sip coffee, and share our prayer needs, all while our kids play nearby. This book has been so encouraging to us as we navigate the challenges of being a mom everyday, I love hearing women say "I thought I was the only one who____, but now I know I'm not." Tomorrow we're working through chapter 3 together in our book, The Gospel Cenetered Parent by Rose Marie Miller. Hope you'll join us!
Being a mom and keeping tiny humans alive is tough work! I literally don't know how I'd do it without a community of other women and Jesus. If you ever feel like you're the ONLY mom who does/thinks/says/worries/laughs at something, well you aren't, we can all relate! Come and join us while we learn together how Jesus makes all the difference in our parenting challenges. I look forward to this time every week! Agape Momsmeets from 9-11 am every Thursday and our current book study The Gospel Centered Parent by Rose Marie Miller is meant to be worked through in community, so just COME! Yes- we have the coffee and new mamas are jumping in every week ☕️👯♂️🙏🏻
We've gotcha covered on the coffee☑️, Jesus☑️, and a tribe of moms who are in this together. ✌🏻✨TOMORROW at 9am✨- Don't miss the casual meet & greet intro of our new study, The Gospel-Centered Parent! Not sure, just COME, and bring the kids! 👌🏻 If you're looking for a group of women where you'll be ENCOURAGED🙏🏻, not in competition, EMPOWERED 💪🏻, not just getting by, and EMBRACED💓, regardless of your performance, then look no further than Agape Moms! We're different because the Gospel has changed and continues to transform everything about us, including being a momma. We are churchy and not so much at all- and everything in between. Come as you are, bring your mess😜, and we promise to keep that coffee flowing! ☕️We'd love to have you join us (and some new to the group moms too!) as we dig into our new book and discover how Jesus ✝️ makes all the difference in the world.
A big highlight of my week is connecting with these lovely ladies who make me feel normal for the craziness I face everyday as a mom, and also thankful for how we point each other back to Jesus. We're wrapping up our Galatians study with Tim Keller, and we want to extend an open invite as we dive into our next book, The Gospel Centered Parent by Rose Marie Miller. Join us for a laid back meet and greet book intro on ✨April 13th.✨ Come as you are and bring the kids along! Not pictured: all of our kiddos😜 I love being in the trenches together, as we say every week, we don't know how we'd do it without each other. PM or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will connect you to our Agape Moms FB group. We meet Thursday mornings from 9-11am and we'd love to have you join our tribe!
"The Gospel-Centered Parent is different from many other studies for parents. Instead of focusing on how to perform better as a parent, this study is about being a parent who lives and acts out of faith in God. Living by faith is not about technique. It's about trusting in Jesus, not in ourselves, and depending on him for help, hope, direction, and wisdom as we parent. As we trust in Jesus, not in our parenting techniques, we are able to rest from the pressure and anxiety we naturally feel as we raise our children. The Gospel-Centered parent is not just about change in your children; it's mostly about gospel growth in you, the parent.
