What am I Not Believing About the Gospel?

This week we’re talking about how the gospel is the remedy to every problem and fulfillment to every thing we think we need. So often we get stuck in ruts, or rather, cycles of unbelief. We forget the gospel, and believe lies about ourselves and God, and it wreaks havoc on our souls and on our lives.

For example, we’re 21 days into the New Year, and how are those resolutions going? How do you speak to yourself or evaluate your worth when you don’t measure up to the standards that you’ve set? What’s getting you down? What is THE THING, (the number on the scale, the accomplishment, the relationship) that you think you need to be enough instead of being enough because of Jesus?

When we have lost hope, it’s because we ARE FORGETTING THE GOSPEL!

When we are down on ourselves, it’s because we are BELIEVING LIES ABOUT WHO WE ARE instead of seeing our new identity in light of the gospel.

When we stop trusting that God is loving, good, and worthy of our trust, it’s because we are BELIEVING LIES ABOUT WHO GOD IS.

When we struggle, when we sin and when we take our eyes off of Jesus for some fleeting pleasure, it all boils down to this:

WE ARE BELIEVING LIES

AND

WE ARE FORGETTING THE GOSPEL!

What lies are you believing today and how does the good new of the gospel, who God is and who you are in light of Him, change everything about the thing you are struggling with RIGHT NOW?

Let’s learn to preach the gospel to our own hearts, and the more we do it, the more love and grace we will have towards others when we see them struggle too. We are all a mess and we all need Jesus! Let’s make sure our goals, those New Years resolutions, and our greatest joys, whatever they are, are all rooted in the person of Christ, because the promise of anything else making us enough is a straight up LIE and will sell you short. Now that is the #gospeltruth
