Start an Agape Moms

Has God been burdening your heart to reach other moms around you with the good news of Jesus? Do you crave an authentic environment where you can bring the mess of motherhood and grow with other moms in Jesus?

This is where Agape Moms comes in and connects our call to make disciples by living on mission in everyday, messy mom-life. If you’ve been lacking purpose in life, we challenge you to seriously consider the purpose that God has already given us, to love God, love others and make a lifestyle out of sharing Him with others!

What is Agape Moms?

We are a family network of mama tribes who are seeking after Jesus as we navigate motherhood together. In our family, you’ll be ENCOURAGED, not in competition, EMPOWERED, not just getting by, and EMBRACED, regardless of your performance.

As we bring everything back to the gospel, it unleashes us to live lives of purpose for God in everyday, messy mom-life. We welcome moms into our tribe who don’t yet know Jesus, we care for each other like family in the highs and lows of life, and we continually experience the gospel bearing fruit in and through us, together on mission for Jesus.

Agape Moms gathers weekly as moms are

Agape Moms Vision & Mission

This week on the Agape Moms Blog and socials, we are doing a vision casting week! We’ve gained a lot of new followers in the past 6 months since we launched this website, and so it’s important to share about exactly who we are and what we’re about! New Agape Moms groups are also forming right now, and so we hope this helps to showcase what God has been doing in and through Agape Moms, and our prayer is that more of you will join us!

Simple Gospel by United Pursuit

“Simple Gospel” by United Pursuit is a perfect song to lead our hearts in worship after a week of focusing on speaking the gospel into our everyday lives!

The line, "you say no amount of untruth can separate us" used to stick out to me in a bad way, it ruffled my religious feathers, thinking, well of course if someone thinks wrongly about God, it WILL separate them from Him. And while this is true to some extent, every truth must be filtered by the authority of scripture, even as believers we have to admit that we still harbor untruths.

We all have things we are still struggling to believe rightly about God and rightly about ourselves, especially in light of the Gospel.

The Cross Chart

Another tool to add to our theme this week of speaking the gospel into everyday life is The Cross Chart and the Shrinking The Cross Chart. (Taken from the Gospel-Centered Life by Thune and Walker.)

The Cross Chart highlights what a growing, gospel-centered Christian will experience as she continues to grow. Her awareness of both the depth of her sinfulness and the greatness of God’s holiness increases, as well as her need for the cross of Jesus. This amplifies her love and appreciation for Christ, and produces joyful obedience and Spirit-filled dependence to grow spiritually. She knows she needs Christ to continually fill her gap and empower her to live for Him. Instead of feeling shame or despair, she recognizes that Jesus is her righteousness and continually depends on the Holy Spirit to defeat her sinful nature.

The Shrinking The Cross Chart highlights what happens when the gospel isn’t at the center and the need for the cross isn’t increasing in a believer’s life.

We Never Outgrow the Gospel

We never outgrow the Gospel of Jesus, it is not just good news on the day of salvation, it is THE news we need to return to throughout each and every day, but we often forget.

The book of Galatians was Paul’s first letter to the churches, and like us, they were already forgetting the gospel, and returning to religion, to rules and regulations, over a less cut and dry lifestyle of worshiping Christ. Paul calls them foolish, because they had begun with the Spirit, but were now returning to human effort. They were trying to make a way for themselves when Christ already had done that for them. Sound familiar?

Gospel-Shaped Age Transformation

So when I looked back at my original profile picture and thought about jumping on the “How Hard Did Aging Hit You Challenge,” I didn’t want to share on Facebook because obviously I’m no longer 110 pounds, but I decided to post this because I am so glad that I’m NOT! Maybe those who aren’t feeling like sharing their aging process need to hear my story.

I look back here at someone who was performing and striving to earn my worth, in every single area.

What am I Not Believing About the Gospel?

This week we’re talking about how the gospel is the remedy to every problem and fulfillment to every thing we think we need. So often we get stuck in ruts, or rather, cycles of unbelief. We forget the gospel, and believe lies about ourselves and God, and it wreaks havoc on our souls and on our lives.

For example, we’re 21 days into the New Year, and how are those resolutions going? How do you speak to yourself or evaluate your worth when you don’t measure up to the standards that you’ve set? What’s getting you down? What is THE THING, (the number on the scale, the accomplishment, the relationship) that you think you need to be enough instead of being enough because of Jesus?

Agape Moms Tampa Bay Area Winter Kickoff!

Agape Moms in the Tampa Bay Area had a great winter kickoff today with lots of new mamas who are finding a tribe to navigate messy motherhood with, while bringing everything back to Jesus! Can’t wait to see this group continue to grow as they open another location next week in Valrico, FL in addition to Lithia, FL so that this group can continue to offer more empty seats for those who need a family of God or are wanting to explore Jesus for the first time.

Celebrating all Jesus is doing in raising up more leaders, and more disciples, who are making disciples as they live on mission in everyday, messy mom-life! Message us or visit our “Start an Agape Moms” drop down menu right here in our website if you’d like to learn more about starting an Agape Moms missional community in your area!

New City Catechism for Kids!

As the new year kicks off, and kids are still on break and off their schedule, now is a great time to re-evaluate our approach to teaching our kiddos the foundations of our faith. What’s working well? What is not? What are the best times of day to “teach (God’s Word/commands) to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” -Deuteronomy ‭11:19‬

The New City Catechism has been a favorite discipleship tool over the past few years that fits well into our lifestyle. Our family has really enjoyed the app and making it part of our morning routine (most of the time 🤣, I’m renewing my commitment!)

We learn and review the question and answer songs on the app over breakfast many mornings

Read Through the Bible in 2019 with Agape Moms & DAB!

Happy New Year! What goals are you setting this year? Join Agape Moms by staying in the Word everyday with the daily audio Bible app. 20 minutes a day and you will get through the entire Bible this year, along with helpful commentary at the end of each section. So glad I saw a friend recommend this because I was wanting to read through the Bible this year, but I find that the majority of books I read are audio because I can listen while driving, working out, doing chores, etc. I hope you’ll join us!

What are some other resources that you’re using to help keep you connected to Christ? What are your goals for 2019? Let us know in the comments!

Year End Reflections

No matter how you feel about your “top 9” this year, whether nothing went right or you’ve had your best year yet, it’s so important to remember that our greatest hope is in JESUS, not our highlight reel!

Regardless of how 2018 shook out for us, I think it’s so important to sit down and make a list to give thanks for all God has done, even if His grace is the silver lining.

It was only 4 months ago that the Agape Moms website & socials launched. It was something I was terrified to do, but God

Who is God Calling You to Befriend in 2019?

These words are resonating and challenging my soul coming into 2019. @houseofbelonging is speaking straight to me! #jesuswasamisfit

Is God stirring your heart to get out of your comfort zones and church bubbles by welcoming others on the fringes at your table? Consider partnering with the Agape Moms family network and starting an Agape Moms missional community in your neighborhood!  #tribelife #dontmomalone

New Agape Moms groups are forming in 2019 in Valrico, FL and Bonney Lake, WA! We’d love to add you to an online training community where you can receive support, or do a self-led training on our website. This spring there will be an in person training in both WA and FL with two different coaches, and others still working their way through the process of launching their own groups, self-led on our website.

We are just a message away if you want to hop in, let’s talk through your thoughts as you consider what God may be calling you to do in 2019, and it would be a privilege to pray with you!

The mom world can be super dark without the hope of Jesus, and there are already women God has placed in your path who need to be in relationship with you so you can introduce them to Him.

The Gospel Comes With a House Key

Agape Moms’ Gospel-centered resource recommendation this week is “The Gospel Comes with a House Key“ by Rosaria Butterfield.

Hear the story of how a very unlikely person, who was deep in a lifestyle of rebellion and completely lost from God, came to know Christ through intentional relationship and invitation to regular gatherings with believers over the table.

Rosaria then gives us a front seat to her transformed life. We get to hear and see what living out radical, Biblical hospitality looks like on a moment by moment basis. From the way they budget, to the way they pray, invite and open up their home, you will be practically inspired to adopt this as your own lifestyle, in your own God-led way.

Welcoming the Stranger at Your Table

That’s what welcoming is, it starts with “Hi, how are you?” and an invitation to the table that is not, and I would say should not be, “perfect”. The goal is not to put our best foot forward. Sure we want all guests to feel comfortable but perfection is not the way to do that, authenticity is. If the goal is Pinterest hospitality then you are the focus and not the relationship. It’s ok for things to be awkward and even feel like your striking out. That shows your authenticity and invites your neighbor to show theirs.

Because Jesus Eats With Everyone

This week, we are talking about gathering the stranger with us at our tables. I cannot wait for you to hear from my friend and our guest blogger, Becca Voight, whose family is such an example of devoting their life to this very thing.

In the meantime, let’s begin to pray and think about who we can be gathering at our tables during this holiday season. Who are the forgotten, the lonely, those who cannot repay us the favor?

Finding Joy in the Face of Fear

Fear…its a feeling we all experience at varying degrees from childhood to adulthood. From monsters we thought were lurking under our beds to the what ifs we question over and over as grownups: Fear strikes us all. Moms, I know you’ll agree with me, fear is taken to a new level as we enter and then experience motherhood. There’s nothing quite like it.
